SPECIALIST ELDERLY CARE

Patients aged 75 and over are invited to attend an annual health check with our Elderly Care Specialist Nurse. If patients also have medical conditions such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Kidney Disease or Respiratory Disease they will have their conditions reviewed at this appointment.

CHILD VACCINATIONS SCHEDULE

2 months old Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) one injection

PRIMARY CARE MENTAL HEALTH WORKER

The service is available to patients 16 years of age and over who present to the GP with mild to moderate depression, anxiety and related / other problems. Referral to the service is via your GP. The first session is for one hour, the brief therapy offered lasts for 3 – 4 hours over all.

TRAVEL VACCINATIONS

This practice is a registered yellow fever centre. A charge will be made for this and other holiday vaccines not covered by the NHS. Please allow at least eight weeks before travelling to contact the practice nurse regarding your vaccinations. If you are planning a pregnancy the following advice is important:

  • Stop Smoking – Advice can be given to support stopping smoking
  • Rubella Status – A blood test should be checked to see that you are protected against German Measles
  • Folic Acid Tablets – Available from the Pharmacy, and should be taken one month before and for the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. This is to greatly reduce the risk of the baby developing spina bifida.
  • Avoid Soft Cheeses – Brie, Camembert etc, also pate, prepared salads, pink meat
  • Alcohol – Best avaoided altogether
  • Over the counter medication – do not take medication purchased yourself at a Pharmacy unless cleared by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Pain or Fever – Paracetamol may be used. Avoid Aspirin or Disprin
  • Fresh Fruit and Vegetables – Wash properly
  • Cat Litter – Can transmit an organism which causes toxoplasmosis, which can harm your baby. Avoid contact with cat litter, sick cats and wear gloves when gardening in case of contamination with faeces.
  • Lambs and Sheep – Can cause an infection which is harmful to your baby. Avoid all contact with milking ewe, newborn lambs, and let your partner wash his working clothes.
